Day to day

Day 1: Arriving at Danebu

Day 1: Arriving at Danebu

Transport: Take a scenic bus ride from Oslo to Aurdal, then a shuttle to Danebu. At the village of Aurdal, we will pick you up to bring you to the lodge (20 min transfer).

Activity: First cross-country skiing tour
If arriving early, enjoy a refreshing first cross-country ski trip around Danebu, gliding through well-groomed trails. This peaceful introduction lets you soak in the stunning winter landscapes and prepare for your stay in Valdres.

Evening

In the evening you can relax in the lounge and enjoy a good dinner.

Day 2: Cross-country ski tours around the lodge

From the lodge, you have access to a wide network of groomed tracks. The length and difficulty can be chosen by yourself.  All tracks are well marked.

In the evening you can relax in the lounge and enjoy a good dinner.

Day 3: Ski tour lodge to lodge: Danebu to Nythun

15 km and 235 m ascent

Today you will ski on your own on groomed tracks to the second accommodation of your cross-country week in Valdres. Your trip will lead you from Danebu to Nythun through open wooded areas that are so typical for Scandinavia. You will pass Smørlifjellet with its open spaces where you can vary and extend your route, and you will get the chance to a great 360-degree view to the Valdres area with the high mountains of Jotunheimen on the horizon.

Day 4: Ski tour lodge to lodge: Nythun to Harangtunet (Yddin)

29 km and 544 m ascent

Today the big main stage of your trip is waiting for you. Prepare yourself with a tasty, packed lunch and fill your termos for this trip between Nythun and Harangtunet. Open spaces and wooded areas alternate through today’s stage in the winter wonderland of the Valdres area. As tonight’s accommodation is not directly on the track, your host will pick you up and will bring you to the cozy boutique mountain lodge where you can relax from this longer stage with tasty food and a relaxing atmosphere. If you like you can have a shorter stage from appr. 20 km and the host will pick you up to at a place a little earlier before the normal stages goal.

Day 5: Ski tour lodge to lodge: Harangtunet (Yddin) to Beitostølen

19 km and 348 m ascent

After yesterdays longer stage today will be more relaxed. Your host will shuttle you back to the track and from there you will head for the high mountains of Jotunheimen. The surrounding will be more and more open and you can experience the typical Scandinavian feeling of being outdoors in the mountains. If you like you can extend your stage due to the many different tracks around Beitostølen, one of Norways top cross-country destinations.

Day 6: Cross-country ski tours around the lodge

From the hotel, you have access to a wide network of groomed tracks. The length and difficulty can be chosen by yourself.  All tracks are well marked.

Day 7: Departure Day

Transport: Bus ride back to Oslo

Enjoy a scenic bus ride back to Oslo. Relax and take in the beautiful winter landscapes as you reflect on your time in the peaceful mountain surroundings, making the journey a perfect end to your adventure in Valdres.

Important Details / Equipment / Packing List

To fully enjoy your skiing adventure in the mountainous areas, it’s important to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and local temperatures. For a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we recommend wearing warm, waterproof clothing, and bringing sunscreen and sunglasses.

The winter season starts with short days with daylight, but then you will get a lot of clear starry sky, and if you are lucky even northern light. Bring a headlamp and ski in the dark! From around mid Febuary, you will get longer days.

When you book with us, we’ll provide you with a packing list to ensure you have all the necessary clothing and gear.

Difficulty

Easy – Medium

This is a trip very easy to adjust to your skill level at cross-country skis. It is advisable that you have tried cross-country before but not required.

Ski Tracks

The tracks run through varied, rolling terrain, from spruce and birch forests up to the high open plains with wonderful views. The forest tracks offer protection from windy and snowy weather while the tracks on the mountain plateaus offer wide views on fine days. In general, the tracks are easy to intermediate with not too long and not too steep ascends and easy, fun downhill runs and flat parts in between.

The app provides you all the details you need to knwo for your trip in a convenient way, ensuring a seamless and well informed journey.

Meals

All restaurants offer food based on local ingredients. For breakfast there will be buffet. Here you also need to make yourself a packed lunch that you bring to lunch for the day. It is possible to fill a thermos, check with the accommodation. Dinner will be served in the afternoon/evening.

Transport

When travelling with us, the bus ride from and to Oslo is included in your journey. The buses start at Oslo bus terminal in the city center, next to Oslo Central Train station. The bus ride to the Jotunheimen and Valdres area takes approximately 4 to 5 hours depending on where your trip starts/ends.

Departure times from Oslo Bus Terminal vary depending on the season and the days. In general, you can choose from the following departures:

*Note: Depending on the season, your day of arrival and your final destination, there might be more or less departures, also there might be departures straight from Oslo Gardermoen airport to Jotunheimen and Valdres. This can apply also to the journey back to Oslo. Please share your travel plans with us and we will find the best possible bus departures according to your trip.
