Explore Jotunheimen with Snowcoach and Snowshoes  

Experience the magical winter beauty of Norway like never before on a unique journey from Oslo to Jotunheimen, the country’s highest mountain range. After a comfortable journey with our bus from Oslo, our historic Bombardier snowcoaches will take you to the remote village of Eidsbugarden in Jotunheimen.

Upon arrival at Eidsbugarden, check in at Fondsbu, an accommodation provided by the Norwegian Trekking Association, which will be your base for the next two days.

Our friendly driver will give you a pair of snowshoes and a brief introduction on how to use them, along with suggestions for the best routes. You can embark on a self-guided snowshoe walk, immersing yourself in the breathtaking winter landscape and enjoying the fresh air and serene silence of Jotunheimen National Park.

In the evening, savor a delightful dinner at Fondsbu, and feel free to unwind by the cozy fireplace. You may even take a nighttime stroll to admire the starry sky – experience the quietude and solitude in this secluded village in Norway’s highest mountain range. 

The next day, you have enough time to go for a second self-guided snowshoe hike before the snowcoaches leave and bring you back to civilization.

Day 1

Transport from Oslo to Jotunheimen

In the early morning, at 8:30 am, you’ll depart from Oslo aboard our comfortable express bus. During this about 5-hour journey, you’ll travel through the picturesque Valdres region before reaching the Filefjell and Jotunheimen area. Along the way, you’ll be treated to views of frozen lakes, waterfalls, and a pristine white landscape dotted with traditional Norwegian farms and houses.

Pit Stop: Tyinkrysset Fjellstue
Arrival: 1:00 pm. Duration: about 30 minutes. Departure: 1:30 pm.

After some time on the bus, it’s important to refuel with some energy before continuing your exploration. At Tyinkrysset Fjellstue, conveniently situated near the Tyinkrysset bus stop, you can enjoy a freshly prepared sandwich, complete with your choice of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Restroom facilities are also available for your convenience.

Your journey continues from Tyinkrysset Fjellstue to Tyin, where the snowcoaches depart. You will be picked up by a mini-bus at Tyinkrysset Fjellstue no later than 1:30 pm. Please ensure punctuality to avoid missing the bus. If you haven’t finished your sandwich, feel free to take it with you. Arrival by mini-bus at Tyin, approximately 1:40 pm.

Activity: Snowcoach to Eidsbugarden

Departure: 1:45 pm. Duration: about 45 minutes. Arrival: 2:30 pm.

These charming snowcoaches are essential for the residents of Eidsbugarden, providing the only link to civilization during the harsh winter months. Our snowcoaches, with a maximum capacity of 12 persons, run daily on a fixed schedule between Tyin and Eidsbugarden, taking you on an approximately 45-minute journey through a mesmerizing winter wonderland.

Activity: self-guided snowshoe walk

Upon your arrival at Eidsbugarden, you will be provided with a pair of snowshoes to explore the beautiful surroundings at your own pace. Our friendly driver will give you a brief introduction on how to use the snowshoes and offer suggestions for the best routes to take. You can take a self-guided snowshoe walk and immerse yourself in the stunning winter landscape, enjoying the fresh air and tranquil silence.

Accommodation and meals

The accommodation for the night is Fondsbu, a charming lodge from the Norwegian Trekking Association. The lodge is widely known for its good atmosphere, hosts, and great location. Here you can relax after a day outside. They have a cozy library in the loft, or you can enjoy a drink in front of the fireplace in the living room. You will sleep in a private room with a shared bathroom.

Dinner
You will be served a three-course dinner in the evening.

Day 2

Activity: Snowshoeing and Snowcoach to Tyin

After breakfast, you are welcome to go on another snowshoe hike in the surroundings of Eidsbugarden.

Snowcoach back to Tyin
With rosy cheeks and fresh memories in mind, our snowcoaches will transport you back to civilization. The snowcoach departs back to Tyin at 12:30 AM (12:30). Please ensure punctuality to avoid missing the return trip

Transport from Jotunheimen back to Oslo

Arrival by bus at Oslo Bus Terminal, approximately 6:35 PM (18:35).

Our experienced guide will offer a wealth of information about the area’s rich history and natural beauty, enriching your appreciation of the stunning winter landscape. Additionally, you’ll receive expert guidance on using snowshoes and hiking poles during the safe excursion in the surrounding area.

Important details

To fully relish your winter adventure in the high-altitude mountains of Jotunheimen, dressing appropriately for cold weather conditions and local temperatures is paramount. For a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we strongly recommend donning warm, waterproof clothing, sturdy boots or shoes, and applying sunscreen and wearing sunglasses in case of sunny weather. Avoid wearing trail runners, everyday shoes, or sneakers. Please be aware that, for safety reasons, we reserve the right to refuse your participation in the tour if inappropriate clothing is worn.

With the booking, you will receive an equipment list together with your travel documents.

  • In the evening, we serve you a dinner at Fondsbu
    The meal at Fondsbu lodge will be served during your stay and you can decide yourself at which time you want to enjoy it. You can choose between two enticing options: “Dagens middag med kaffe/te” (Today’s dinner with coffee/tea) or “Fondsburger” (Homemade burger).

Orientation
To assist you in getting oriented, we will supply you with a physical map and a tour description. Upon your arrival, our staff will provide a briefing and offer suggestions for the most optimal routes to explore. For a safer and more enjoyable experience, we highly recommend considering the option of including a private guide in your booking.

    Minimum of two attendees required for this tour. If there aren’t enough bookings for your chosen day, we will notify you by email or phone before 6:00 PM on the day before your booked date. You can then choose to join a rescheduled trip or cancel your order free of charge.
