Accommodation
Filefjellstuene:
Located at 900 m.a.s.l. in Jotunheimen, Filefjellstuene welcomes trekking lovers and outdoor enthusiasts all year around. The old traditional mountain farm was turned over the years to a cozy hotel lodge with lots of modern amenities. It has been renovated in 2024 and can now offer completely new sauna, modern rooms as well as more traditional cottages. Filefjellstuene is strategically located close to the main road E16, along the historic “King’s Road” and at an equal distance (ca. 250 km or 3,5 hours) from both Oslo and Bergen. The hosts place strong emphasis on offering excellent meals prepared with local ingredients.
Husum:
Active since 1835 as a coaching inn – and later as a local post office complete with telegraph – the hotel presents a Swiss style typical of the Sogn area during the 19th century and it’s a 10-minute walk from the historic King’s Road. It has been visited by Norwegian personalities during the years (Edvard Grieg, Ole Bull and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson), especially because of its position on the river Lærdalselvi, famous for the abundance of salmon. Due to the seasonality of the fishing season, the hotel is open just in summer and can be reached by public transport.
Meals
All restaurants offer food based on local ingredients. For breakfast there will be buffet. Here you also need to make yourself a packed lunch that you bring to lunch for the day. It is possible to fill a thermos, check with the accommodation. Dinner will be served in the afternoon/evening.

Our selected daily hikes are well-marked, and you will meet other hikers. The trails can be narrow, wet and a bit rocky. Therefore, we recommend ankle-height mountain boots and hiking poles.

Trails and weather
The conditions in the autumn are wonderful, but it can also give some challenges. You need to be prepared to walk in the snow in case of snowfall. We have also described alternative routes for the steepest parts if the exposure or conditions makes it uncountable. In September, normal temperature is between 0-10 degrees.
All the paths are well-marked. The terrain varies from flat and easy to rocky and hilly. All the hikes as a short steep, exposed crux where you will have to use both legs and arms. Thou these sections can be avoided by walking an alternative route around.
