Description
This round trip over lake Bygdin is a possibility to explore Jotunheimen in an easy way – the nature and local food.
The motorboat M/B Bygdin leaves at 09.05 from Bygdin and will cross in 1 hour and 45 min the lake to Bygdin until you arrive at the western end, where you will departure the boat at Eidsbugarden.
Eidsbugarden is a small village with long tradition – accessible in summer by car on a gravel road and in winter time only on ski or with snowcoaches.
Hiking possibilities are endless around Eidsbugarden. We recommend a hike to “Utsikten” – the View – that will give you a nice view over the region as the name already indicate. The hike takes 2-4 hours and is 6 km long with 410 ascent meters. Just drop into the accommodation Fondsbu DNT beforehand to arrange, when your lunch should be served – before or after your hike. At Fondsbu DNT you can get more help and recommendation for hikes in the region. If you do not want/cannot go to Utsikten, you can also wander around Eidsbugarden.
At 15.30 M/B Bitihorn will depart from Eidsbugarden with you. Enjoy the ride over this big lake with a view over the impressive mountains of Jotunheimen – the home of giants as we say, since they contain the highest summits from Norway.

Trails and weather
The conditions in the autumn are wonderful, but it can also give some challenges. You need to be prepared to walk in the snow in case of snowfall. We have also described alternative routes for the steepest parts if the exposure or conditions makes it uncountable. In September, normal temperature is between 0-10 degrees.
All the paths are well-marked. The terrain varies from flat and easy to rocky and hilly. All the hikes as a short steep, exposed crux where you will have to use both legs and arms. Thou these sections can be avoided by walking an alternative route around.
