    Day 1: Arrival

    Day 2: Cycling, Part 1

    Cycling from Hjerkinn to Grimsdalshytta

    Time: 3-4 hours, Distance: 54 kilometers, ↑ 470 meters

    The route between Hjerkinn and Grimsdalshytta follows first a forest trail to the beautiful Kvitvalley before you reach the road to Folldal. From Folldal you follow Rondane National Tourist Roads towards Grimsdalen. Here you cycle between the two national parks – Dovre National Park on one side and Rondane National Park on the other until you reach the accommodation for the night.

    Day 3: Cycling, Part 2

    Cycling: from Grimsdalshytta to Trolltun

    Time: 3-5 hours, Distance: 42 kilometers, ↑ 764 meters

    From the heart of Dovre National Park, you follow the gorgeous Grimsdalen further upstream along the river Grimse,. The route is relatively flat with the exception of the last steep climb up to the mountain pass. From there, a steep downhill will bring you into the Gudbrandsdalen that you will follow until you reach Dombås where you stay for the night.

    Day 4: Cycling, Part 3

    Cycling: from Trolltun to Hjerkinn Fjellstue

    Time: 2-3 hours, Distance: 33 kilometers, ↑ 328 meters

    Follow the old mountain road through Dovrefjell. On the right side, you see the fantastic Dovre National Park; on the left, you will see Grytdalen and Snøhetta, the highest mountain in Dovrefjell. There are several lovely places to stop along the way to take pictures and have lunch.

    Bike rental
    When you rent a bike from us, you can pick it up at your first accommodation and leave it at the last one. The price includes a helmet, bike bag and a rep kit. All pedals are flat.

    Train from/to Oslo, NOK 1.999
    We always want to facilitate you to make green choises. You can choose to add train tickets from/to Oslo. It also includes pick up from the train station to your accommodation Hjerkinn. It is also possible to choose an other start or ending destination, but be aware this can have an other price.

    You can choose to add an extra night at your last/first accommodation, then we recommend one of the add ons below.

    Riding, daytrip, NOK 1.490
    We meet in the stables at Hjerkinn 9.30 am. You will be given a horse for the day, saddles on and ride out for walks. Bring a packed lunch and drink in the saddle box. We finish before 4 pm, then you can take the train back home, or take your car. It is also possible to stay one more night at Hjerkinn.

    Musk ox safari, NOK 615
    You meet 9.40 am with your guide. Depending on where the musk oxen are, we need to hike for 1-2 hours to reach them. Since these are wild animals, it is difficult to predict how long we need to hike. Underway, we take breaks, and the guide will share their knowledge about the flora, fauna, and culture of the region. When we are so lucky to spot the musk oxen we will use the time to watch them from a safe distance to not disturb them. The guide will bring a telescope and it is possible to rent binoculars beforehand if you like. We will be back between 3-4 pm. Then you can take the train back home, or take your car. It is also possible to stay one more night at Hjerkinn.

    Important details

    To fully enjoy your cycling adventure in the mountainous areas, it’s important to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and local temperatures. For a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we recommend wearing warm, waterproof clothing, sturdy shoes for cycling, and bringing sunscreen and sunglasses.

    Luggage Transport

    We will send your luggage from cabin to cabin, so you only need to bring a daypack.

    Accommodation

    At Hjerkinn and Trolltun you will get a private bathroom with a toilet and shower. In the DNTt cabin, you will meet a traditional atmosphere where there are private rooms with bunk beds and bathrooms and showers are in the hall.

    Hjerkinn Fjellstue:
    Hjerkinn Fjellstue og Fjellridning in Dovrefjell National park has a long tradition of hosting travelers and has provided friendly, high-quality accommodation for hikers and visitors for 1200 years. 

    Grimsdalshytta DNT:
    Grimsdalshytta is situated in the picturesque Grimsdalen Valley, near the village of Dovre. The lodge is surrounded by stunning natural beauty, with towering mountains, lush forests, and meandering rivers. Grimsdalshytta offers stunning landscapes, outdoor activities, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and provides you with an unforgettable experience in the heart of Norway’s wilderness.  

    Trolltun Gjestegård:
    Trolltun Gjestegård is located a bit north of the centrum of Dombås. This charming guesthouse offers a tranquil retreat for those seeking a peaceful getaway. The traditional Norwegian architecture and cozy interiors create a warm and inviting atmosphere, making guests feel right at home. Surrounded by majestic mountains, lush valleys, and serene lakes, Trolltun Gjestegård immerses visitors in the beauty of nature. 

    Meals

    All restaurants offer food based on local ingredients. For breakfast there will be buffet. Here you also need to make yourself a packed lunch that you bring to lunch for the day. It is possible to fill a thermos. Dinner will be served in the afternoon/evening.

    Gravel/trail
    You will be given gpx coordinates you can use on your mobile or GPS. Most of the trail runs on nice gravel roads, they can have some potholes but are generally of a good standard. Some parts are on asphalt.

    Kilometers: 20-65 kilometres
    Altitude: up to 1000 meters elevation
    Terrain: fine gravel roads or asphalt, can be short sections with a path

    Trips are mainly on good gravel or asphalt roads, but there may be shorter sections where you will have to wheel a bit in rough terrain. If the Easy level suits you with a pedal bike, you can perhaps manage the Medium level with an e-bike.
