Day to day

Day 1: Arriving at Beitostølen

Transport: Take the comfortable Bus from Oslo to Beitostølen. Take the short walk from the bus stop to your cabin or hotel room, and check in.

Activity: First cross-country skiing tour

If arriving early, enjoy a refreshing first cross-country ski trip around Beitostølen, gliding through well-groomed trails. This peaceful introduction lets you soak in the stunning winter landscapes and prepare for your stay in Valdres.

Evening

You can make your meal in your cabin or go out and eat in one of the various restaurants Beitostølen has to offer. Beitostølen also offers several sports shops, cafes, lodges, and pubs.

Day 2-5: Daily ski tours

Activity: Daily cross-country ski tours

From the hotel/cabin, you have access to more than 180 km of groomed tracks. When booking you will receive a tour description with suggestions on day trips, including the Panorama trip which includes a lift card and bus ride up and back from the trip. Make a rough plan on the first day, by looking at the weather forecast, to plan where to go when during the week.

Evening

You can make your meal in your cabin or go out and eat in one of the various restaurants Beitostølen has to offer. Beitostølen also offers several sports shops, cafes, lodges, and pubs.

Day 6: Departure

Transport: Bus from Beitostølen to Oslo

Enjoy a scenic bus ride back to Oslo. Relax and take in the beautiful winter landscapes as you reflect on your time in the peaceful mountain surroundings, making the journey a perfect end to your adventure in Valdres.

Beitostølen, in the Valdres region, is one of Norway’s most popular cross-country skiing destinations with many hundred kilometres of groomed tracks. Do self-guided cross-country skiing tours from the mountain village of Beitostølen, by the foot of Jotunheimen’s high mountain peaks. We invite you to stay in a traditional Norwegian cabin or hotel room.

If you like you can book a training course in cross-country skiing in addition to learn this winter sport from scratch. Also a rental of cross-country skiing equipment is possible.

After being active outdoors in winter, you can relax with a view to the high mountains of Jotunheimen.

If you like to expand your range of winter activities, you will find an alpine downhill right in the middle of Beitostølen where you can go skiing on a piste. Lift ticket and ski equipment can be ordered right there. Also, other different winter activities like snowshoeing, ice-fishing or dogsledding are possible in Beitostølen – just let us know what you would like to try out and we can add them to your booking!

Staying in Beitostølen is ideally for all who are looking for a place to relax in winter in combination with being active on ski!

Important Details

To fully enjoy your skiing adventure in the mountainous areas, it’s important to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and local temperatures. For a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we recommend wearing warm, waterproof clothing, and bringing sunscreen and sunglasses.

The winter season starts with short days with daylight, but then you will get a lot of clear starry sky, and if you are lucky even northern light. Bring a headlamp and ski in the dark! From around mid Febuary, you will get longer days. And in the spring on warm days, it can even be possible to ski in a bikini.

Accommodation

You can choose between staying in a cabin or in a hotel. The prices vary depending on how many staying, from 1-6 pax. The prices of both accommodations also vary during the season. Send us a non-binding request when you would like to go, and how many you are.

Hovi Cabins:
Hovihyttene is the origin of the accommodation offered in Beitostølen Resort and the favorite of many.

12 cabins divided into two rows. Each is on a practical 50 m² and with a west-facing terrace. Great accommodation for up to 6 people. The cabins are located 300 meters from the city center, just across the street from the grocery store, clothing store, and sports shop. A Hovihytte has 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two bunk beds. One bathroom. Well-equipped kitchen, cozy living room with a fireplace and TV. Dining area for 6 people. Free internet. All cabins terrace is west facing direction. Allowed with a dog for an additional fee.

Radisson Hotel

Radisson Blu Mountain Resort is located in the middle of Beitostølen at the foot of the ski center. Here, wonderful moments start right outside the door where the view of Slettefjell opens through the lovely lobby area with a large fireplace that invites you to throw away your jacket and settle down to stay for a while.

A little extra delicious here is that it is so spatial everywhere. Here is a super two-part fireplace lounge with billiards and access to lots of good books, good fitness facilities, squash court, sauna and 25-meter swimming pool.

The hotel has a large breakfast room and restaurant. Here you will also find a separate restaurant area and the hotel has a traditional lobby bar and dance bar as it should in a mountain hotel

Meals

The cabins got their own kitchen, where you can cook all your meals, but you can also buy meals at restaurants and cafes at Beitostølen.

At the hotel, breakfast is included. There are many resturants to schoose from in the village.

Ski Tracks

The tracks run through varied, rolling terrain, from spruce and birch forests up to the high open plains surrounded by high mountain peaks. The forest trails offer protection from windy and snowy weather while the trails on the mountain plateau offer wide views on fine days. In general, the trails in the Beitostølen trail net are easy to intermediate with not too long and not too steep ascends and easy, fun downhill runs and flat parts in between. They fit everyone from beginners and families to competing skiers who come here for exercise. All routes are numbered and well-described.

This is a trip very easy to adjust to your skill level at cross-country skies. It is advisable that you have tried cross country before, but not required. There is a ski school in the area, Is possible to add-on to this pack, Just ask us.

Transport

When travelling with us, the bus ride from and to Oslo is included in your journey. The buses start at Oslo bus terminal in the city center, next to Oslo Central Train station. The bus ride to the Jotunheimen and Valdres area takes approximately 4 to 5 hours depending on where your trip starts/ends. 

Departure times from Oslo Bus Terminal vary depending on the season and the days. In general, you can choose from the following departures:

*Note: Depending on the season, your day of arrival and your final destination, there might be more or less departures, also there might be departures straight from Oslo Gardermoen airport to Jotunheimen and Valdres. This can apply also to the journey back to Oslo. Please share your travel plans with us and we will find the best possible bus departures according to your trip.
