Frequently Asked Questions About Our Winter Holidays and Winter Activities

How do I get to Jotunheimen and Valdres in the winter?

With our own buses Valdresekspressen or ØstVestekspressen you get a comfortable ride included in all our packages, all the way to the starting point for the trips you are going on.

How is the winter weather in Valdres and Jotunheimen?

Valdres and Jotunheimen are high-lying areas in mountain Norway, and in Jotunheimen you will find the highest peaks Norway has to offer. This means that the weather is rapidly changing, temperatures can drop to over minus 20 degrees, and the snow with the wind can make the view cloudy and the trips demanding. In late winter, from March to April, the days get longer, and the sun can warm even the high peaks if you have calm clear days. It is important to wear clothes according to the conditions. We have more information about this during each trip, where we also have suggestions for packing lists

I can not find a trip I want to experience, can you make personal packages?

Yes, we can! Contact us, to tell us more about your wishes, and we will tailor an exciting winter adventure for you.

Do I pack/dress different in winter than in summer?

Yes, you need to pack and dress differently for winter than for summer. In winter, it’s essential to wear layered clothing to stay warm and dry. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, followed by an insulating layer (such as fleece or wool), and finish with a waterproof and windproof outer layer. Don’t forget warm gloves, a hat, and thermal socks. It’s also smart to carry extra layers, like a down jacket, in case the temperature drops.

Why do I have to bring sunglasses and sunscreen in winter?

Even in winter, the sun can be strong, especially at higher altitudes and when reflected off the snow. Sunglasses protect your eyes from the intense glare, and sunscreen helps prevent sunburn, as UV rays can still cause skin damage, even in cold weather.

It must be cold to have your lunch outside in winter?

It can be cold to have lunch outside in winter, but with proper clothing and layers, it’s manageable. Many trails have sheltered spots for breaks, and a warm drink in a thermos can help keep you comfortable. Taking shorter breaks and staying active also helps you stay warm.
