2025 began for me with a new adventure: a new job at JVB Travel in Fagernes. This was quite a big change for a city girl like me, but I was really looking forward to it. Originally from Switzerland, outdoor activities and the mountains have always held a special place in my heart. In my free time, I spend a lot of time outdoors, whether on foot, skis or bike. Since moving to Norway in 2019, I’ve lived in Oslo. I love the capital, but it’s a bit far from my favorite playground – the mountains. With this job, a dream came true: being able to combine city and mountains while also inspiring others to experience amazing nature with authentic adventures.
One day in December 2024, before I had even started my new job, I received an email in my inbox from my new colleague, Simon. He informed me that we would be going on a trip together to visit partners at Vaset and Golsfjellet right after my first day at the office in Fagernes. Needless to say, I was thrilled to read that.
We visited three partners located in a fantastic hiking area along the Mjølkevegen: Gomobu Fjellstue, Oset Fjellhotell and Kamben Høyfjellshotell. I’ve been on several trips in this area before, so I was familiar with some of these places, but getting to know the hosts was an experience in itself. Rarely have I met people who are so welcoming, and that is something these places have in common – otherwise, they are quite unique.
It was an inspiring day filled with wonderful sensory experiences: beautiful places, laughter, waffles, and coffee (lots of coffee) in great company. I’m looking forward to properly starting my new job and exploring even more in this beautiful region!
Gomobu Fjellstue
The lodge is located in a stunning mountain area in Valdres. Whether on skis, by foot, or by bike, there are plenty of hiking opportunities starting right at the doorstep. Gomobu offers something for everyone with various accommodation options. You can choose between a room in the main building and an apartment or cabin nearby. The lodge is perfect for relaxing after a day in the mountains, with its cozy fireplace lounge and sunbathed terrace in the summer. Stiff muscles can also be soothed in the sauna, and a delicious three-courses dinner ensures you’re ready for another day in the mountains.
Oset Fjellhotell
This hotel is located in Golsfjellet, at the end (or start) of the Mjølkevegen and has a long history dating back to the 1890s. Here, you can enjoy spacious and cozy common areas with views of beautiful nature. Golsfjellet is known as a skiing paradise, but it also offers many opportunities for hiking and cycling. Oset has something for everyone; you can relax in a cozy corner while the kids enjoy the playroom or cinema. The hotel also features an indoor pool and a sauna with the option of an ice bath. Excellent food complements the experience, and don’t forget to taste their delicious waffles – perfect for a well-deserved break during your adventure.
Kamben Høyfjellshotell
Kamben is a traditional and charming mountain lodge also located in Golsfjellet. The hotel has a rich history of more than 100 years and is a very romantic place who has kept much of its historical charm. When you step inside, you immediately feel at home and relaxed. The surrounding terrain can be explored on skis, by foot, or by bike. After your trip, a wood-fired sauna awaits, along with a five-course dinner overlooking breathtaking scenery. Accommodation options include rooms and cabins next to the main building.
