Norway, mountains, crisp snow: why not experience winter as described in fairytales? On this 5-day winter adventure, travel to Jotunheim – the home of Giants – and explore the highest mountain range of the country. On dog sleds, snowshoes, and with our snow coaches, winter in Norway doesn’t necessarily need to be cold and boring! We thought about you, beginner novice of Amundsen! Comfort is life’s biggest blessing, but sometimes stepping out of it can hold pleasant surprises at the cost of some modest challenges!

Day to day

Day 1: Arriving at Beitostølen

Transport

Busride from Oslo to BeitostølenTake our bus from Oslo bus terminal, and in 4 hours you will be transported from the city dimension to the wintery peaks of Jotunheimen – if you see Olav from “Frozen” along the way, don’t be scared! It is a scenic ride along valleys, rivers, and villages but we haven’t forgotten to make it cozy: USB, comfortable seats, and built-in toilettes, we have them all!
There are several departures available and depending on your arrival time in Beitostølen, you might want to start with a blast already on your first day in Frozen land.

On Thursday, Friday, and Sunday we have as well a bus leaving from Oslo Airport, 17:00 with arriving at Beitostølen at 21:00.

Activity:
The early bird catches the worm, so we learned… if you have the chance to catch the first bus, you can participate in the afternoon at the following activities:
– Airboarding: we gave skiing and sledding techniques a modern twist! Use your body to shoot downhill on an inflatable sled; our instructors will teach you how to control the direction with your body, but remember, caution – plus helmet and goggles – first!
– Snow rafting: Possibility is the mother of the invention – more or less. Mountains have been used for skiing slopes in ages, why not using the same slopes for rafting? It has been a popular activity for those with a strong inclination for quick adrenaline rushes, low physical activity, but unforgettable memories… Ready for a ride?

Accommodation: Radisson BLU Mountain Resort. Modern resort high up in the mountains, with ski slopes at its back, the resort offers a variety of alternative activities for those in need of variety in life.

Dinner: not included, but you have the pick of the choice, many restaurants are at short walking distance from the resort!

Day 2: Doggsledding

10 a.m., ready for action! Today you’re going to experience dog sledding! Typical of Northern regions – Balto, anyone remember? – used to be a way to transport goods, letters, and information in the absence of roads. Today it’s still in use, but as playtime and training for our furry babies, and a relaxing activity for our guests!
Learn how to prepare a sled, and if you want to walk in the footsteps of dog mushers of the past, you will have your chance 😊

Not ready to go to bed? There is so much you can do! Ever heard of air boarding or snow rafting? No? tsk, tsk, it’s perfect if you’re in for a shot of natural adrenalin!
More in dire need of a warm embrace? Try the Ridderbadet, the indoor pool at the resort; warm up any frozen body part and sip a hearty cup of hot chocolate, you deserve it!

Day 3: Snow coach and lunch in Jotunheimen

Catch your bus to your next adventure at 10.45; you will need to change the bus in Fagernes before arriving at your destination, but rest assured, our team will meet you in Tyinkrysset for the snow coach ride in Jotunheimen.

Activity: Snow coach and lunch in Jotunheimen
You will travel with our trusted snow coaches into Eidsbugarden, a remote village on the mountains only reachable by snow coaches in the winter season. Upon arrival, we will hand you out a pair of snowshoes and you will have the time to explore the village at your own pace before enjoying at earthy lunch, and then driving back to Tyinkrysset by snow coach.

Accommodation: Filefjellstuene. A traditional mountain farm whose structures were turned to hotel lodge. Filefjellstuene will provide you with the necessary amount of kos necessary to relax after a tough day on the mountains.

Meal: Breakfast, packed lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Snowshoe hike along the King’s Road

For today we invite you to join a hike on a royal path: the King’s Road! First logistic work by order of the then King of Norway, it was aimed at connecting Eastern and Western Norway, to facilitate connections and commerce. You’re going to hike the original Road, experiencing the snow-coated nature in the valley combined with picturesque villages full of stories and culture.

Accommodation: Filefjellstuene.

Meal: Breakfast, packed lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Departure Day

Transport: bus Filefjellstuene – Oslo

Bravo! You’ve come so far, we cannot but be proud of you! It’s not easy to challenge its own comfort zone and decide to step out in the Big North for some adventures! Maybe you didn’t cross the Antarctic, you didn’t suffer famine or frostbite, but for sure you tried something out of the ordinary!
Nonetheless, for today we don’t have anything exhausting for you, just a simple transfer from Filefjell to Oslo, just in time to catch your connection back home, then lay back and allow yourself to relax during the transfer…you will arrive safely and sound in town at 14.45.

If you are interested to see the capital of Norway, or your flight is arriving late, you can ad one extra night in Oslo, including breakfast. You can also ad it on the end of the trip.

Important Details

To fully enjoy your winter adventure, it’s important to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and local temperatures. Bear in mind that local temperatures may vary from a minimum of -10, down to a whooping -25 degrees (Bergen might be a bit warmer, being the city of rain). For a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we recommend wearing layered warm clothing to adapt to different temperatures, warm boots, mittens, buff and a warm hat.

For the dogsledding, you will receive a thermos overall and warm boots.

Most of the rooms have queen-sized beds or single beds, depending on the accommodation you choose, but all the rooms are equipped with hair-dryer, fridge and Wi-fi

Filefjellstuene:

A traditional mountain farm whose structures were turned to hotel lodge, Filefjellstuene will provide you with the necessary amount of kos necessary to relax after a tough day on the mountains.

Meals

All restaurants offer food based on local ingredients. For breakfast is a common habit to have a buffet.

At Filefjellstuene you will have to prepare yourself a packed lunch for the day, dinner will be served late afternoon/early dinner.

In Beitostølen, lunch and dinner are not included, but you will find many restaurants and cafes just around the corner.

Medium

To take part to the activities, you should be able to walk for up to two hours (snowshoeing) and you need to be aware that dogsledding requires some strength to hold you onto the sledge and steer it.

Transport

Travel green. Enjoy the trip from the big city towards Valdres and Jotunheimen! The express buses take you straight from the capital to the heart of Norway. On the way you will pass mountains, valleys, rivers, and beautiful farms. The buses have power outlets with USB chargers and toilets.
