You can choose your daily activity level on you own, the well-marked trails with different distances and strength levels start right at the lodge. If you like add a relaxed afternoon with sauna, try out cross-country skiing as an add-on activity or just enjoy reading a good book with a warm beverage sitting next to the fireplace

We make your journey seamless by helping you reaching Fagernes by bus from Oslo, and then further by shuttle to Kamben mountain lodge. Throughout the week, you’ll stay in a cozy mountain-lodge that is well known for great food and its hospitality.

Day to day

Day 1: Arrival

Transport

Bus from Oslo to Fagernes. At the village of Fagernes, we will pick you up to bring you to the Kamben lodge (30 min transfer).

Activity

Depending on arrival time, you can inspect the surroundings, test your snowshoes, or even do a short first tour.

Day 2 - 7: Daily Snowshoeing tours

Activity: Daily Snowshoeing tours

Duration: 3-6 hours, choose on your own

The surrounding of Kamben offers a great variety of marked snowshoeing tracks with different length and ascent metres. Enjoy the winter outdoors as long as you like, for relaxing hours after being on tour choose to go to the sauna, relax in front of the warm oven in the cozy lodge with a good book or try maybe your first steps on backcountry or cross-country skis.

Since the weather and snow situation can change, the local knowledge at the lodge is necessary to make a good decision for the daily tour. Talk to your host.

Important Details

To fully enjoy your snowshoeing adventure in the mountainous areas, it’s important to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and local temperatures. For a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we recommend wearing warm, waterproof clothing, and bringing sunscreen and sunglasses.

The winter season starts with short days with daylight, but then you will get a lot of clear starry sky, and if you are lucky even northern light. 

Accommodation

Kamben

A traditional Norwegian mountain lodge in the heart of Valdres. It has 40 rooms with peasant romantic style and is well known for its hospitality.
The kitchen is of a high standard with good homemade food based on local ingredients. Dinner is 5 courses and breakfast has a great buffet. They also have the curiosity of whisky tasting or their own wine, for those who want to try this.

Snowshoeing Tracks

The tracks run through varied, rolling terrain, from spruce and birch forests up to the high open plains with wounderful views. The forest tracks offer protection from windy and snowy weather while the tracks on the mountain plateau offer wide views on fine days. They fit everyone from beginners and families. All routes are well described.

Difficulty

Easy-Medium

This is a trip very easy to adjust to your skill level at cross-country skies. It is advisable that you have tried cross-country before, but not required.

Transport

When travelling with us, the bus ride from and to Oslo is included in your journey. The buses start at Oslo bus terminal in the city center, next to Oslo Central Train station. The bus ride to the Jotunheimen and Valdres area takes approximately 4 to 5 hours depending on where your trip starts/ends. 

Departure times from Oslo Bus Terminal vary depending on the season and the days. In general, you can choose from the following departures:  

08.30 am* 

10.20 am * 

12.20 pm * 

15.00 pm * 

*Note: Depending on the season, your day of arrival and your final destination, there might be more or less departures, also there might be departures straight from Oslo Gardermoen airport to Jotunheimen and Valdres. This can apply also to the journey back to Oslo. Please share your travel plans with us and we will find the best possible bus departures according to your trip.
