Day to Day

Day 1: Arrival

Transport

Take a scenic train ride from Oslo to Otta, then a shuttle to Lemonsjø. If arriving early, enjoy a refreshing first cross-country ski trip in Lemonsjø, gliding through well-groomed trails. This peaceful introduction lets you soak in the stunning winter landscapes and prepare for your stay in Jotunheimen.

Evening
In the evening you can relax in the lounge, try out the sauna, and enjoy a good dinner.

Day 2 - 7: Skiing

Daily cross-country ski tours
From the lodge, you have access to more than 150 km of groomed tracks. The daily tours are 5 – 30 km in length and have different difficulty rates. All tracks are well marked and in addition, you will get access to the JVB Travel app for orientation and suggested trips.
Since the weather and snow situation can change, the local knowledge at the lodge is necessary to make a good decision for the daily ski tour. Talk to your host!

Day 8: Departure

Departure

Shuttle ride from the lodge to Otta (45min transfer). From there train ride back to Oslo

Take a shuttle from Lemonsjø to Otta, then enjoy a scenic train ride back to Oslo. Relax and take in the beautiful winter landscapes as you reflect on your time in the peaceful mountain surroundings, making the journey a perfect end to your adventure in Jotunheimen.

Lemonsjøen features around 150 km of cross-country tracks, frequently prepared to a world-recognized standard. The network is well signed and carefully maintained with guests’ comfort and safety in mind. The terrain offers something for everyone: gentle valley routes for relaxed touring, as well as longer mountain loops for more experienced skiers seeking spectacular views of the surrounding peaks.

You can start skiing directly from your personal cabin, giving you the freedom to explore at your own pace each day. Ski equipment can easily be rented on site, and beginners can join a cross-country skiing course to learn the basics or improve their technique with professional instruction.

To add variety to your winter week, the area also offers several memorable activities. Guests can try snowshoe hiking through quiet forests and open mountain landscapes, enjoy the traditional winter game Eisstockschießen, or experience the thrill of dogsledding with a team of eager huskies at a husky farm nearby.

Important Details

To fully enjoy your skiing adventure in the mountainous areas, it’s important to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and local temperatures. For a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we recommend wearing warm, waterproof clothing, and bringing sunscreen and sunglasses.

The winter season starts with short days with daylight, but then you will get a lot of clear starry sky, and if you are lucky even northern light. Bring a headlamp and ski in the dark! From around mid Febuary, you will get longer days.

Lemonsjø Fjellstue
Lemonsjøen Lodge is a friendly and inviting mountain retreat, perfectly located at the edge of Jotunheimen and serving as an ideal starting point for cycling along Mjølkevegen. Enjoy your own cozy, fully serviced cabin with two bedrooms (up to 6 guests), a floor-heated bathroom, and a well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher. Relax by the fireplace with included wood, unwind in the sofa corner, and take in beautiful views. Wifi included.

Meals

The restaurant offers traditional norwegian food based on local ingredients. For breakfast there will be buffet. Here you also need to make yourself a packed lunch that you bring to lunch for the day. It is possible to fill a thermos, check with the accommodation. Dinner will be served in the afternoon/evening.

Easy to Moderate

This trip is suitable for guests with some initial cross-country skiing experience. The routes lead through gently to moderately hilly terrain with some longer climbs and gentle descents. Basic skiing technique and a normal level of fitness are recommended. The tracks offer varied landscapes and well-prepared trails. The actual difficulty may vary depending on personal experience, fitness level, weather conditions, and the condition of the ski tracks.

Support fee for cross-country trail maintenance

A small fee is included in your trip to support local cross-country skiing clubs that maintain and prepare all the ski tracks you use during your stay. Most of the work in these clubs is done voluntarily by local residents who dedicate time and effort to keep the trails in good condition throughout the winter. The contribution helps cover equipment, fuel, and maintenance. With this fee, you help to support local communities and ensure that a wide network of well-prepared ski tracks remain available throughout the winter.

JVB App

When booking a trip with Jotunheimen Travel we will provide you access to our own Jotunheimen Travel App.

The app is a digital guidebook for your trip. It provides you with offline access to personalized itineraries, topographic maps, GPS navigation, daily route details, accommodation information, and weather forecasts as well as to your personal travel documents such as tickets, vouchers, and schedules. The app provides you with all the details you need to know for your trip in a convenient way, ensuring a seamless and well-informed journey.

Transport

When travelling with us, the train ride from and to Oslo is included in your journey as well as the shuttle to & from Lemonsjø. The journey takes up to 4 to 5 hours and the schedule is fixed due to the shuttle transport.
