Day to day

Day 1

Bus: Oslo Bus Terminal → Beitostølen:
Enjoy the trip from the big city towards Valdres and Jotunheimen! The express buses take you straight from the capital, to the heart of Norway. On the way you will pass mountains, valleys, rivers, and beautiful farms. The buses have free WiFi, power outlets with USB chargers and toilets.

Dog sledding
When you arrive in Beitostølen the guide will pick you up and will drive with you to the husky farm where dozens of huskies are awaiting you. You will get to know the dogs and how to manage, lead and steer the sledge and your team of husky’s. Once you get the hang of it, there will be a 12-16 km dog sledding tour where you can put your skills into practice together with your guide.
The dog sledding tour is about 2,5 hours and you will have plenty of time to enjoy the experience and scenery in the fantastic winter landscape with Jotunheimen mountain peaks in the background. Normally two people will share a sled, one steering and one sitting on the sledge, changing positions along the trail. Small children can sit together with an adult. If you don’t wish to steer the huskies, just let us know in advance so we can plan ahead.
Our tour leaders and “mushers” are skilled and experienced nature guides, committed to providing an instructive, fun, environmentally friendly and safe adventure.

Wilderness meal
Back at the husky farm the guides will serve you a hot wilderness meal around a campfire before they will bring you to your accommodation.

Accommodation: Wilderness cabin
Now it is time to relax for the evening. We will bring you to our wilderness cabin where you can experience the silence and the the feeling of being alone in the nature without the sometimes-disturbing civilization hassle.
We´ll instruct you on all you need to know about this “back to basics” experience.
This is simple yet genuine wilderness accommodation. Electricity is substituted by a wood-fired stove and light comes from numerous candles. Complete the experience with a real wood heated sauna (need to be booked in addition) by the lake. Bedlinen and towels are included.

Day 2

Wake up after a night in the comfortable wilderness cabin and enjoy the morning without stress with a delicious breakfast basket.

Snowshoeing & ice-fishing
Your next adventure awaits you. Together with our guide, you will try snowshoeing and ice fishing today in the beautiful landscapes in the heart of the Mountains of Norway.
We bring along one or two huskies that happily provide us with great company and even some assistance with the equipment.
Few things are more traditional Norwegian than spending a day outdoors just enjoying nature and warming up with friends around the open fire. The hike will take us through deep forest and across open, but frozen, wetlands. We will take time to explore tracks and signs left by the inhabitants of the forest. If we are lucky, we might capture a glimpse of them as well.
As we reach the lake, we prepare for ice fishing. With the proper equipment and advice from the guide we have a good chance with the hooks. Flashes of adventures as described by Jack London will enter your mind, as the guide shows how to cook your own fish and prepare a real wilderness meal over the campfire. Don´t worry, we´ll bring other food items just in case we don´t get any luck with the hooks!

Bus: Beitostølen – Oslo
After two long days outside, you need to say goodbye to the winter and the Norwegian mountains before heading back to Oslo. You might feel asleep and will dream about your winter adventures during this comfortable tour back to Oslo where you will arrive at around 6.30 pm.

Practical information

All the necessary equipment and clothes is included in this tour.
As for all activities, it´s important to dress appropriately to match the Norwegian summer and autumn weather conditions. You will receive a packing list from us with the booking.

Food: you are welcome to bring some extra food for your overnight stay. There is time to go shopping in Beitostølen before heading to the husky farm. There is as well time to buy something before your buss leaves back to Oslo on the second day (even on Sundays!).

Previous experience is not needed for joining this dogsledding tour. To be able to steer your own sledge and go on a snowshoe tour, all you need is average physical condition and good balance.

This is an instructive hands-on experience that requires the disposition to learn something new.

Children are welcome to join this tour, accompanied by an adult. Children under 14 years old will be normally sitting on the sledge.

Contact us in forehand before booking children under 6.

Pregnant women cannot participate on any dogsledding.
