Experience one of Norway’s most scenic gravel routes with fellow riders on this guided adventure, travelling from the extensive native forests around Lemonsjøen to the rural uplands of Valdres, passing beneath some of Norway’s highest peaks in Jotunheimen National Park.

This ride is designed for cyclists with advanced fitness; a unique adventure on some of Norway’s finest gravel roads.

About Mark Beaumont & Markus Stitz

Mark Beaumont is one of the world’s best-known endurance cyclists and a leading voice in adventure and exploration. Based in Edinburgh, he has spent the past two decades pushing the limits of human endurance on the bike, working in more than 100 countries and speaking at thousands of events. Among several Guinness World Records, he remains the fastest person to have cycled around the world. @mrmarkbeaumont

Markus Stitz is a route designer, filmmaker, photographer and guidebook author based in Edinburgh. He is best known for becoming the first person to cycle around the world on a singlespeed bike, covering 34,000 kilometres unsupported. Markus now creates gravel and bikepacking routes, films and guidebooks that inspire people to explore landscapes by bike and regularly guides rides in Scotland and beyond. @reizkultur

Day to Day

Day 1

Arrival at Oslo Gardermoen Airport and transfer (not included) to city centre. Meet & greet by your JVB guide at the hotel in the city centre.

Enjoy the first day in the Norwegian capital on the Oslofjord, surrounded by forest. Depending on your arrival time, you might have time to add a city tour by bike. If you wish, add an extra night in Oslo to explore the city and/or the gravel roads of Nordmarka, an extensive forest close by (see add-ons).

Day 2

Transport
Transfer by bus from Oslo to Lemonsjøen in the heart of Norway, close to Jotunheimen National Park.

In the afternoon you have time to get your bike ready for the trip and for an optional warm-up ride in the area before dinner.

Activity: Cycling Lemonsjøen
Distance: approx. 40 kilometres, ↑ 700 meters

On your first day, you get the opportunity to warm up for your gravel trip while getting a little taste of cycling in the Norwegian mountains on this short loop mixing gravel and tarmac.

Day 3

Activity: Cycling Lemonsjøen – Bygdin
Distance: 88 kilometres, ↑ 970 meters

Today, the road leads you above the treeline to the beautiful “Jotunheimvegen”, offering stunning views. Cycle along the beautiful Vinstra lake and past local summer farms while enjoying the panorama of the mountains of Jotunheimen National Park in the horizon. Your destination is Bygdin, a small hamlet located on a stunning lake, surrounded by high mountains.

Day 4

Activities: Hiking Synshorn, boat to Eidsbugarden and cycling to Filefjell
Hiking: 5 kilometres, ↑ 350 meters
Cycling: 24 kilometres, ↑ 150 meters

Start the day with a hike/run right from the doorstep of your hotel. This takes you to the top of Synshorn, from where you can enjoy panoramic views over the surrounding area before taking the historical M/B Bitihorn boat to the other side of Bygdin lake. Your next accommodation is a short, but very scenic bike ride away from the boat pier. You cycle along Tyin lake with a beautiful view over some iconic mountain peaks of Jotunheimen before arriving in Filefjell.

Day 5

You choose: Relax in beautiful surroundings or cycle from Filefjell and back. In the afternoon/evening the sauna will be heated exclusively for your group.

Activity: Cycling The 1000metre (Tusenmeteren)
Distance: 86 kilometres, ↑ 1700 meters

Enjoy a unique cycling experience descending from the mountains on an iconic gravel road with switchbacks all the way down to the fjord. On the way up you can choose between the gravel road or an easier tarmac climb. Good lights are required.

Day 6

Activity: Cycling Filefjellstuene – Vaset
Distance: 75 kilometres, ↑ 1500 meters

Today is another challenging day in the saddle, rewarded with spectacular views and five-star gravel roads. You start by cycling down back to Vangsmjøse until you reach Ryfoss. Enjoy a short pit-stop before starting the climb of the day to Syndin plateau. At the top, amazing gravel roads await you before ending the day in Gomobu. Celebrate the day with a cold drink in the afternoon sun on the terrace at your accommodation.

Depending on the level of the group we can ride a more adventurous alternative with some singletrail sections.

Day 7

Activity: Cycling Vaset – Golsfjellet via Panoramavegen
Distance: 35 kilometres, ↑ 490 meters

Early birds can add a Dawn Patrol ride before breakfast to experience the sunrise over Vaset before you enjoy the last day on the bike with a panoramic ride over the rolling and rural landscape of Vaset before cycling further to Golsfjellet. Immerse yourself on some of the most beautiful gravel roads in the area. When arriving in Kamben, a delicious five-course farewell dinner is awaiting you.

Day 8

After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to your local JVB guide before your transfer departs and takes you directly to Oslo Gardermoen airport.

When you rent a bike from us, you can pick it up at your first accomodation and give it back at the last one. The price includes a helmet, a lock and a rep kit. If you are interested in seeing the capital of Norway or cycling in the gravel eldorado of Nordmarka (only possible with your own bike), you can add a night in Oslo before your cycling trip.

Important Details

To fully enjoy your gravel adventure in the area, it’s important to dress appropriately according to the weather. The temperatures can vary a lot during the day, especially when you cycle from the mountains to the valley. We recommend waterproof and warm layers that you can add and remove easily in addition to gravel cycling shoes, suncream and cycling glasses. Helmets are mandatory.

Luggage Transport

We will send your luggage from hotel to hotel, so you only need to take with you a small saddle bag or fill the pockets of your jersey.

Lemonsjøen Fjellstue
Lemonsjøen fjellstue offers a serene and tranquil atmosphere surrounded by stunning natural landscapes. The air is crisp and clean, with the sounds of birds and wildlife providing a peaceful soundtrack. The cozy cabins and warm hospitality of the staff assure you a comfortable and relaxing stay.

Bygdin Høifieldshotel
This hotel has a long tradition of hosting active mountain people who want to visit Jotunheimen. Enjoy cosy rooms in and the historical atmosphere. The food is for sure to be the highlight of your stay. Delicious dinners are made from local ingredients and served with love.

Filefjellstuene
Enjoy a cozy cabin feeling in state-of-the art accommodation. Once a traditional mountain farm, this is now a modern mountain lodge with comfortable rooms with ensuite bathrooms, and a great restaurant in the main lodge.

Gomobu Mountain Lodge:
Known for its cozy atmosphere and friendly hosts, Gomobu is a welcoming mountain lodge on the edge of Valdresfjellet. The lodge serves tasty, locally sourced food that reflects the region’s traditions and flavours. Guests can choose from a variety of accommodation options, including comfortable modern rooms in the main lodge and fully equipped cabins suitable for families and groups.

Kamben Høyfjellshotell
Kamben Hotel, located on Golsfjellet, is a charming mountain hotel with a long tradition of hospitality and a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. The welcoming hosts make sure guests feel at home from the moment they arrive. The hotel is known for its excellent cuisine, offering delicious five-course dinners made from locally sourced ingredients that reflect the tastes of the region.

Meals

All restaurants offer food based on local ingredients. For breakfast there will be buffet. At breakfast you will make your own packed lunch to bring for the day. It is possible to fill a thermos flask, check with the accommodation. Dinner will be served in the afternoon/evening.

Route

Gravel
Most of the tour follows well-maintained gravel roads. They may have occasional potholes but are generally in good condition. There are also some brief sections on asphalt or trails.

Distance per day: up to 100 kilometres
Ascent per day: up to approximately 1500 meters
Terrain: gravel roads or asphalt 

Trips are mainly on good gravel or asphalt roads, but there might be short sections where you must cycle a bit in rough terrain. Stages can reach up to 100 km and have some challenging climbs. Suitable for experienced riders with good endurance, but who do not want to rush between each destination.

When you book with us, we’ll provide you with a packing list to ensure you have all the necessary clothing and gear with you.

Arrival / Departure

Arrival:
The transport from city centre of Oslo to Lemonsjøen is included in the package and the transport of a bike in a bikecase is included. The transfer from Oslo Gardermoen airport to the city centre is not included. An express train is connecting the airport to the central station in Oslo every 10 minutes (tickets to buy at the train station) and your hotel will be located a only short walking distance away from the station.

Departure: 
A transfer for the group will be organized from Kamben to Oslo Gardermoen. Estimated arrival time at the airport around 12.30.
