Explore the mountains around Jotunheimen on a dogsledding tour from the Norwegian mountain village Beitostølen. After one night in a local hotel with the first winterly impressions you get familiar with the dogs and get your first training in dogsledding. The overnight trip to the wilderness starts after staying one night in a cabin at the farm  and you will embark on sleds to the open spaces of the mountains nearby, where you can enjoy the peace and quiete nature accompanied by your new furry friends!

Get to know winter in Norway in one of the coolest ways by embarking on a dogsledding overnight trip to the mountains around Jotunheimen National Park.

Start you trip from Oslo to the mountain village of Beitostølen that is famous for wintersports, where you get your first proper winter impressions in the mountains. Stroll around the village, enjoy crisp air and the bright sky. Have a good dinner at the hotel in the evening and maybe if you like the sauna.

The next day you will start you dogsledding adventure at the huskyfarm. During the day you will be introduced to your new furry friends, learn to mush your own team of huskies and become an expert in dog sledding.

After one night in a cabin at the farm the main adventure starts, and you will go to the mountains around Beitostølen on a sledge together with your dog team following an experienced guide to a remote cabin in the mountains where you spent the night. Experience bright sky without light pollution and if you are lucky Northern Lights!

Learn interacting with your own pack of sled dogs, take good care of your own team and get their unconditional affection during the trip.

Day to day

Day 1: Arrival

Arrival Beitstølen

Take the prebooked bus from Oslo to Beitostølen, where you get the first impressions of proper winter in the Norwegian mountains.

Enjoy a nice dinner, take the chance to stroll around or go to the hotel sauna.

Day 2: Dogsledding

Activity: Introduction to dogsledding
Your adventure begins in the morning at Beito Husky Camp with a full-day training experience. Join us as we take you through the daily routines of husky camp life and provide an inside look at how we manage our husky farm.

After an equipment check and thorough preparations, you’ll embark on an exciting full-day dog sledding tour. The route takes you through a diverse landscape of deep forests, expansive wetlands, rolling hills, and frozen lakes. By the end of the day, you’ll already feel like a seasoned musher!

You’ll stay overnight in a private wilderness cabin at our camp for a truly immersive experience.

Day 3: Dogsledding

Activity: Doggsledding
After completing the first day’s intensive dog sledding course, the adventure continues. With all packing and preparations done, we’re ready to fully enjoy the days ahead. Equipped for an overnight in Norway’s mountains, we’ll drive to the wilderness edge and set off into untouched nature.

The journey often starts near Garli, heading across Lake Vinstervann toward Skreddalen Valley, offering breathtaking views of Jotunheimen National Park if the weather allows. After a full day of sledding, we’ll care for our hardworking huskies, ensuring they’re fed, hydrated, and rested. Then, we’ll prepare the cabin, light the fire, and cook dinner. Evenings are cozy, spent by candlelight and the warmth of the fireplace.

Day 4: Dosledding / Departure to Oslo

Activity: Dogsledding

We’ll continue through the scenic landscapes of Langsua National Park, with the majestic Skaget mountain, its highest peak at 1,686 meters, rising on the horizon. By afternoon, we’ll return to the Husky Camp, where it’s time to settle the dogs back into their homes and bid them a fond farewell.

After coming back to the village of Beitostølen you will step onot the bus back to Oslo.

    You can choose to end your trip in Bergen instead of Oslo. Then you will skip the last cruise to Bygdin and take the bus from your last accommodation.

    If you are interested to see the capital of Norway, or your flight is arriving late, you can ad one extra night in Oslo, including breakfast. You can also ad it on the end of the trip.

    Important Details

    To fully enjoy your dogsledding adventure in the mountainous areas, it’s important to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and local temperatures. For a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we recommend wearing warm, waterproof clothing, and bringing sunscreen and sunglasses.

    Extra warm clothing and extra warm and sturdy winter boots are provided by the husky farm

    The winter season starts with short days with daylight, but then you will get a lot of clear starry sky, and if you are lucky even northern light.

    Radisson Blu Mountain Resort is located in the middle of Beitostølen at the foot of the ski centre. Here, wonderful moments start right outside the door where the view of Slettefjell opens through the lovely lobby area with a large fireplace that invites you to throw away your jacket and settle down to stay for a while.

    A little extra delicious here is that it is so spatial everywhere. Here is a super two-part fireplace lounge with billiards and access to lots of good books, good fitness facilities, squash court, sauna and 25-meter swimming pool.

    The hotel has a large breakfast room and restaurant. Here you will also find a separate restaurant area and the hotel has a traditional lobby bar and dance bar as it should in a mountain hotel.

    Beito Husky Farm Cabin 

    Experience the charm of a cozy, off-grid cabin, combining closeness to nature with comfort. You’ll receive personal instructions for this “back-to-basics” getaway, featuring a wood-fired stove, candlelight, and a lakeside sauna. For the adventurous, try a dip in the lake or a snow tumble in winter — warm water is always available.
    Located 6.5 km from Beitostølen, the area is peaceful yet close to shops and restaurants. The cabin is fully equipped with a kitchenette for a comfortable stay.

    Beito Husky Mountain Cabin

    For the overnighter trip you will enjoy the charm of a cozy mountain cabin that seamlessly blends comfort with a deep connection to nature. It’s the classic Norwegian way of accomodation when going to the mountains

    Previous experience in dogsledding is not needed for joining this tour.

    All you need for this tour is good physical fitness, a sense of adventure, and a willingness to learn new skills while working as part of a team in wintertime and outdoors.
