Day to Day

Day 1 - Arriving at Beitostølen

Transport: Bus from Oslo to Beitostølen

Take a scenic bus ride from Oslo to Beitostølen. It is a scenic ride along winterly valleys, rivers, and villages.

The lodging destination of today is a cozy winter resort in Beitostølen, at the edge of Jotunheimen; there are several departures possible, and depending on your arrival time at the resort you might have time to do an activity already at arrival day.

Upon arrival in Beitostølen, check in at Beito Resort Hotel.

Activity:

When you have the chance to take the first bus, you can participate in the afternoon snowshoeing if you like (every day on request at 15:00).

Dinner at leisure. You will find different kinds of restaurants and cafés around the resort.

Day 2 - Activity: Dogsledding

Today you’re going to experience dogsledding!

Learn how to prepare a sled, cuddle the dogs and discover winterly mountains in Jotunheimen!

Looking for more adventure in the afternoon? You are already adopting the Norwegian spirit! Keep the excitement going with snowshoeing if you like as an add on. (every day on request at 15:00)

Day 3 - Bus to Tyinkrysset & snowcoach and lunch at Jotunheimen

Transport: Bus to Tyinkrysset and snowcoach to Eidsbugarden

Activity: Snowcoach and lunch in Jotunheimen

You will travel with the snowcoaches into Eidsbugarden, a remote village on the mountains only reachable by snowcoaches in the winter season. Upon arrival, we will hand you out a pair of snowshoes and you will have the time to explore the village at your own pace

Day 4 - Snowshoeing and snowcoach ride & bus to Årdalstangen

Transport: Snowcoach to Tyinkrysset and bus to Årdalstangen

Activity: Snowshoeing and snowcoach ride

Need to stretch your legs after so much sitting in front of the fireplace? Take another snowshoe tour before hopping back on the snowcoaches. The next stretch of road will take you down the spectacular serpentines to the Sognefjord.

Day 5 - Snowshoeing or Winter Kayaking

Activity – two options:

– Snowshoe hike to Paradisjuvet

OR

– Winter kayaking on Sognefjord

Departure Day - Bus ride and Flåm railway

Transport: Bus ride and Flåm railway

Take the spectacular Flåmsbanen and enjoy the the ride from sea level to the high mountains

Depending on your chosen end destination, you need to change the train at Myrdal towards Oslo or Bergen.

From Oslo to Jotunheimen: A Scenic Journey Into Norway’s Winter Wilderness

This winter adventure leads from Oslo to Bergen through Jotunheimen and the Sognefjord area. Made for travellers with more energy than a husky, the journey includes moments of rest—but chances are you’ll still sneak out to explore. After all, winter in Norway is something no one wants to miss!

From Oslo, a scenic bus ride brings you to the winter resort of Beitostølen, where dogsledding and many other snowy activities await. After two nights, snowcoaches follow a historic route to remote Eidsbugarden, a stunning mountain village where silence itself helps you unplug.

Still craving wilderness? Continue toward Sognefjord, where Jotunheimen meets Norway’s longest and deepest fjord. Join a snowshoe hike to Paradisjuvet for breathtaking viewpoints—or try winter kayaking if you’re the adventurous type.

Finally, ride to Flåm and wrap up this Arctic journey in either Bergen or Oslo before returning to everyday life.

Important Details / Equipment

To fully enjoy your winter adventure, it’s important to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and local temperatures. Bear in mind that local temperatures may vary from a minimum of -10, down to a whooping -25 degrees (Bergen might be a bit warmer, being the city of rain).

For a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we recommend wearing layered warm clothing to adapt to different temperatures, warm boots, mittens, buff, and a warm hat.

For the dogsledding, you will receive a thermal overall and warm boots.
Confused about what to bring? Don’t worry, you will receive an equipment list with your travel documents.

Accommodation

Beito Resort Hotel:

A modern resort high up in the mountains, with ski slopes at its back, the resort offers a variety of alternative activities for those in need of variety in life. Most of the rooms have queen-sized beds or single beds, depending on the accommodation you choose, but all the rooms are equipped with a hairdryer, fridge, and Wi-fi.

Fondsbu DNT: It has been gaining popularity through the tv-series “Fjellfolk”, but as well thanks to tasty food and the events during all seasons – gourmet weekends are a highlight here. Fondsbu represents the stereotypical retreat for the weekend: electricity, free wifi, many 2-bed rooms (some with wash basins), as well as welcoming and comfortable living rooms and common areas. Note: Only shared bathroom available.

Klingenberg Hotel: opened in 1861, as a point of passage for hikers and climbers venturing to the discovery of Jotunheimen, the Klingenberg Hotel, has been evolving itself into a modern facility suitable with single, double or 4-bed rooms all equipped with flat screen, minibar, water cooker, gratis WiFi, private bathroom and hairdryer.

Bergen: Thon Hotel or De Bergenske of your choice.

Meals

All restaurants offer food based on local ingredients. For breakfast is a common habit to have a buffet.

At Fondsbu and Klingenberg you will have to prepare yourself a packed lunch for the day.

In Beitostølen, lunch and dinner are not included, but you will find many restaurants and cafes just around the corner.

Difficulty

Medium

To take part to the activities, you should be able to walk for up to two hours (snowshoeing) and you need to be aware that dogsledding requires some strength to hold you onto the sledge and steer it.

Transport

Travel green. Enjoy the trip from the big city towards Valdres and Jotunheimen! The express buses take you straight from the capital to the heart of Norway. On the way you will pass mountains, valleys, rivers, and beautiful farms. The buses have power outlets with USB chargers and toilets.

Arrival/Departure

When travelling with us, the bus ride from Oslo and the train to Bergen is included in your journey. The buses start at Oslo bus terminal in the city center, next to Oslo Central Train station. The bus ride to the Jotunheimen and Valdres area takes approximately 4 to 5 hours depending on where your trip starts/ends.

Departure times from Oslo Bus Terminal vary depending on the season and the days. In general, you can choose from the following departures:

*Note: Depending on the season, your day of arrival and your final destination, there might be more or less departures, also there might be departures straight from Oslo Gardermoen airport to Jotunheimen and Valdres. This can apply also to the journey back to Oslo. Please share your travel plans with us and we will find the best possible bus departures according to your trip.
