Day to day

Day 1: Arriving at Beitostølen

Transport: from Oslo to Beitostølen

4 hours and you will pass from the Urban jungle to “Frozen” jungle! It is a scenic ride along valleys, rivers, and villages and we thought about comfort: USB, cozy seats, and built-in toilets, we got you!

The lodging destination of today is a cozy winter resort in Beitostølen, at the edge of Jotunheimen; there are several departures possible, and depending on your arrival time at the resort you might have time to do an activity already at arrival day.

Departures:
8.30 – 12.27
13.05 – 17:00
15.05 – 19.00

On Thursday, Friday, and Sunday we have as well a bus from Oslo Airport, leaving the airport at 17.00 with arriving at Beitostølen at 21.00.
Upon arrival in Beitostølen, check in at Radisson BLU Mountain Resort

Dinner: not included, but there are many restaurants in Beitostølen at a short walking distance.

Activity:
When you have the chance to take the first bus, you can participate in the afternoon at the following activities:
– Snowshoeing (every Wednesday at 15.00): Snowshoeing is something for everybody. Easy to learn and more or less like hiking, it is possible to have a good time out in the mountains. On this guided hike we will, depending on weather and snow conditions, explore the surrounding nature from Beitostølen.
– Airboarding (every Tuesday at 15.30): we gave skiing and sledging techniques a modern twist! Use your body to shoot downhill on an inflatable sledge; our instructors will teach you how to control the direction with your body, but remember, caution – plus helmet and goggles – first!
– Snow rafting (every Wednesday at 15.00): possibility is the mother of the invention – more or less. Mountains were used for skiing slopes in ages, why not using the same slopes for rafting? It has been a popular activity for those with a strong inclination for quick adrenaline rushes, and low physical activity, but unforgettable memories… Ready for a ride?

Accommodation: Radisson BLU Mountain Resort. A modern resort high up in the mountains, with ski slopes at its back, the resort offers a variety of alternative activities for those in need of variety in life.

Meal: dinner at leisure. Challenge your gastro-tastes with an ample choice of restaurants and cafés around the resort, we have for all types of tastes!

Day 2: Activity: Dogsledding

Get aboard for a simple yet historical activity: dogsledding! Previously used as a means of transport in the North, nowadays is used as training for our huskies and as an alternative to skiing or snowshoeing, with the advantage of receiving free puppy therapy! We start at 10 a.m.; yes, we know it’s early and dark, but “when in Rome, do as Romans do”, therefore “when in Norway, get up early and start exercising even if it’s dark”, your serotonin levels will thank you later!

More activities in the afternoon? Very good! You’re entering the Norwegian attitude! And to keep the thrills high, we can recommend either snowshoeing, air boarding or snow rafting!
Got your share of cold and in need more of warm? Visit the Ridderbadet at the resort, hydrotherapy paired with a cup of chocolate, what else?

Accommodation: Radisson BLU Mountain Resort

Meal: Breakfast. Dinner at leisure, make sure to close this first day with a meal worth of a Viking!

Day 3: Bus to Tyinkrysset & Snowcoach and lunch at Jotunheimen

Transport: Bus transfer to Tyinkrysset
At 10.45 your bus to your next adventure departs, there is a small change of vehicle in Fagernes, but nothing to be scared about, you will arrive safe and sound at Tyinkrysset, where our team will meet you for the snowcoach ride in Jotunheimen.

Activity: Snowcoach and lunch at Jotunheimen

From Tyinkrysset board on our historical – meant as in “we’ve been using them for ages, but we kept them updated and maintained regularly” – snowcoaches towards Eidsbugarden, a remote village inside the mountains only reachable by the snowcoaches. Here, you will receive a pair of snowshoes, and a map and you will be able to visit Eidsbugaden, the frozen lake Bygdin or decide to climb up a local hill for a fun downhill.
For lunch and dinner, you will be at the local DNT cabin, a type of accommodation which is pretty popular among Norwegians, especially when they want to get in touch with their old mountain roots. Relax in front of the fireplace or soak in the sound of silence. It’ll be worth it!

Accommodation: Fondsbu DNT. It has been gaining popularity through the tv-series “Fjellfolk”, but as well thanks to tasty food and the events during all seasons – gourmet weekends are a highlight here. With its rustic yet very welcoming atmosphere, Fondsbu represents the stereotypical retreat for the weekend, where to spend a good night’s sleep or a brief stop during hikes. Note: only shared bathroom available!

Meal: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 4: Snowshoeing and snowcoach ride & Bus to Årdalstangen

Activity: Snowshoeing and snowcoach ride
Need to stretch your legs after so much sitting in front of the fireplace? Take another snowshoe tour before hopping back on the snowcoaches. The next stretch of road will take you down the spectacular serpentines to the Sognefjord.

Accommodation: Klingenberg Hotel. Opened in 1861, as point of passage for hikers and climbers venturing to the discovery of Jotunheimen, the Klingenberg hotel, has been evolving into a modern facility placed directly at the Sogenfjord.

Meal: Breakfast, packed lunch and dinner

Day 5: Snowshoeing or Winter Kayaking

Activity- two options:

Snowshoe hike to Paradisjuvet:
Your legs are begging for rest, but you forgot to take some epic pictures and you need to prove you’ve been athletic – or simply want to make your in-laws jealous? Say no more; you can follow one of our experienced guides up to Paradisjuvet. The terrain is decently comfortable, and the best part is that you will be on an off-beaten path, usually reserved to locals

OR

Winter kayaking:
You’re a tough cookie, eager to play the big boy (o big girl)? Fine, try paddling in winter. Getting wobbly legs? Understandable, who would ever think of sitting in a piece of floating plastic in half-frozen waters, in winter, in Norway? Our answer: people who are Vikings at heart! There’s always a first time in life for everything, why not discovering the hidden pros of winter paddling? We promise no frostbites, but better remember the wool gloves…

Accommodation: Klingenberg Hotel

Meal: Breakfast, packed lunch and dinner

Departure Day - Bus ride and Flåm railway

Transport: Bus ride and Flåm railway

Survived all this adrenaline? Then you will be for sure the first one in line to catch the bus to Flåm (remember that you need to change bus, so don’t forget the luggage).

Flåm is a typical small Norwegian mountain village with a glorious past connected to logistics – and if you visit the Railway Museum, you’ll understand why… And since we’re down on memory lane, let’s experience the past adventurers’ vibes by traveling along the historic trail. Fun fact? 80% of the journey runs on a gradient of 5.5%… speaking of adrenaline, eh?
Depending on your chosen end destination, you need to change the train at Myrdal towards Oslo or Bergen.

Meals: Breakfast and packed lunch
