Ski Tracks

Kamben

Kamben on Golsfjellet offers excellent cross-country skiing in open, high-mountain terrain between Hallingdal and Valdres. The area features approximately 150–200 km of groomed trails, with varied routes suited for both classic and skate skiing. From Kamben Høyfjellshotell, skiers have direct access to a well-connected trail network linking Golsfjellet, Storefjell, and Oset.

In addition to skiing, Kamben offers unique possibilities for marked snowshoeing trails, allowing guests to explore quieter routes through forest terrain and across open mountain landscapes at their own pace. These trails provide an alternative way to experience the winter scenery, ideal for those seeking a different activity besides skiing.

The terrain alternates between sheltered birch forest and wide mountain plateaus, offering good weather protection and expansive views toward Jotunheimen and Hemsedalsfjella on clear days. Snow conditions are generally stable from December through April, making Kamben suitable for both leisure and advanced skiers.

Gomobu

Gomobu and the Vaset area offer excellent cross-country skiing in scenic mountain terrain in the Valdres region, with 120–150 km of groomed trails for both classic and skate skiing. The network ranges from easy, family-friendly loops to longer mountain routes in open terrain that can be more demanding. From the higher sections near Gomobu and the trails towards Syni viewpoint (1,137 m), skiers enjoy expansive views towards Jotunheimen and Langsua National Parks, especially on clear winter days.

In addition to cross-country skiing, the area also offers opportunities for alpine skiing at the small, family-friendly Vaset Skiheiser, as well as dedicated sledging hills that are popular with children and families. Reliable snow conditions, varied landscapes of birch forest and mountain plateau, and well-marked tracks make the area suitable for both leisure and advanced skiers. It is an ideal choice for those seeking a relaxed winter holiday with plenty of space and generally quiet trails.

XC-Skating

Classic Cross-Country Skiing

Classic cross-country skiing is the traditional and most widely supported style in Valdres and Jotunheimen. Most groomed trail networks are prepared with classic tracks, making this the best choice for longer tours, varied terrain and lodge-to-lodge skiing. It also gives you the widest selection of routes throughout the region.

Skate Skiing

There are also good opportunities for skate skiing around several of the mountain lodges, especially at Beitostølen, Vaset/Gomobu and Kamben/Oset, where many trails are prepared for both classic and skating technique. These areas offer wide, well-groomed tracks and are well suited for guests who prefer skating.

Lodge-to-Lodge Skiing

On our lodge-to-lodge tours, however, we recommend using classic cross-country skis. The connecting trails between the different accommodation areas can include narrower sections and mountain tracks that are primarily prepared for classic skiing. Conditions and grooming standards may also vary along the route.

If you prefer skating, you can still enjoy excellent skating opportunities on local trails around several of the lodges before or after the longer stages.

Difficulty

Skiing around the lodges

Easy to moderate

This trip is suitable for guests with some initial cross-country skiing experience. The routes lead through gently to moderately hilly terrain with some longer climbs and gentle descents. Basic skiing technique and a normal level of fitness are recommended. The tracks offer varied landscapes and well-prepared trails. The actual difficulty may vary depending on personal experience, fitness level, weather conditions, and the condition of the ski tracks.

Skiing from lodge to lodge

Moderate to Challenging

This trip is designed for experienced cross-country skiers with good technique. The routes lead through more demanding terrain with longer climbs and sometimes faster descents. Confident ski control is important. Some sections may pass through open mountain areas (fjell), where weather and snow conditions can play a larger role. The actual difficulty may vary depending on personal experience, fitness level, weather conditions, and the condition of the ski tracks.
