M/B Bitihorn
The M/B Bitihorn operates across Lake Bygdin every day during the summer season, from 26 June to 13 September 2026.
The trip can be combined with various bus departures from Oslo. Book your bus ticket to “Bygdin” and continue your journey by boat from the pier (a short walking distance away).
Join a beautiful journey across Bygdinvannet with our historic M/B Bitihorn. On board Bygdinbåten, you see many of Jotunheimen’s mighty peaks towering along the water. The boat calls at Bygdin, Torfinnsbu and Eidsbugarden, all of which are great starting points for experiences in the mountains. The boat at Bygdin operates daily during the season from the end of June to mid-September.
We drive you from Oslo or Bergen straight into the mountain adventure, where we also take care of luggage transport, and arranging accommodation in cozy mountain lodges, with local history and traditional dishes.
The Boat Over Bygdin
M/B Bitihorn operates on Jotunheimen’s largest lake Bygdin, 1058 masl. The lake is approx. 30 km long and the boat trip takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes each way. On board you can buy hot and cold drinks and some snacks. We have a lounge with seating for approx. 70 passengers.
The boat calls at Eidsbugarden in the west and Bygdin in the east. We also have a pier for boarding and disembarking midway at Torfinnsbu DNT cabin.
M/B Bitihorn was built and launched in 1912 and had its maiden voyage on 17th July the same year. The boat has been in service on Bygdin since, only interrupted by a couple of years during World War II. Over the course of a summer season, we transport approx. 10,000 passengers over Bygdinvannet.
Tickets can be purchased through JVB’s own booking system and through other sales channels, such as www.VYBuss.no. Tickets can also be purchased when boarding, but the price may be higher.
